Connect Ubuntu Server (VPS) Using SSH On Android – hello guys finally I am back with a great tutorial in this tutorial I am going to show you, how you can connect Ubuntu server VPS via SSH on Android.

there are lots of tools and tutorials available on the internet. which will show you step by step guide to use the Linux server using SSH protocol on Windows.

but there are very fewer tutorials available for Android devices. that’s why I will tell you the step by step guide. to connect Ubuntu server 16.04 using ssh on Android.

in this guide, I am going to tell you about VPS stuffs. right now I am using the OVH cloud and AWS (Amazon Web Services) cloud.

But there are lots of many more sites are available. where you can get any type of server like Windows Linux etc.

Most popular sites are :

  1. Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  2. Amazon Web Services (AWS).
  3. Microsoft Azure.
  4. OVH Cloud (public cloud).
  5. Alibaba Cloud.
  6. Digital Ocean.

all virtual machines aur VPS are expensive. but you will get free trials from the above sites. then you can use and utilize your skills there.

right now I have an AWS account and OVH account only I will tell you about both sites only. I will update that article with other cloud sites as well.

before start. you need to understand first, what is Ubuntu server. So let’s begin with the intro of the ubuntu server (VPS).

What Is Ubuntu Server (VPS)?

Ubuntu server is a free open-source software Linux based operating system that runs from the desktop, to the cloud, to all your internet connected things.

Ubuntu is one of the most used system OS and is based on Linux and Debian. Most of the times it is used for own personal computers, smartphones

but also use for Network VPS Servers. The user interface is at default Unity. This is one of the most used user interfaces.

VPS means, virtual private server. as the name suggests. your computer is hosted on the cloud server, not on the local computer. as simple as that.

You can search on Google to get help for the installation of your own virtual private server.

ok so now we understand what is Ubuntu server and VPS. Get ready to create an Ubuntu server 16.04 instance and connect using SSH on our Android Phone.

Let’s start.

How To Connect Ubuntu Server (VPS) Using SSH On Android.

ok so now we are ready to achieve our main goal. which is connect the Ubuntu server using SSH on Android Phone.

first of all, we will learn about Amazon Web Services (AWS) after that we will learn on the OVH cloud. I will update more sites in the future.

follow the guide step by step. you will access your Ubuntu server 16.04 on your Android device without any error.

Create Ubuntu Server On Amazon Web Services (AWS) Using Android :

(1) Go to aws.amazon.com. Create a new account if you don’t have it. They will ask you for some personal information.

Like Name, Adress, Phone Number, Email and card details.

(2) Log in to your AWS dashboard. Click on the Services option from the top. You will see lots of options there. You need to select the EC2 option.

(3) now you will see the instance creation page. Just click on the launch instance. Now you need to select your virtual machine (VM).

(4) select the latest version of the Ubuntu server if you want. But I am using Ubuntu server 16.04. Because is the most Stable variant for me.

(5) select your plan here. Select CPU, RAM details that you want. Now click on Next: Configure Instance Details.

(6) Now don’t modify anything. Just again click on Next: Add Storage. Here you will see SIZE (GB). 8 GB is by default. You can change it if you want.

(7) Now just again click on Next: Add tags. Add any tag if you want. After that click on Next: Configure Security Group.

(8) You will get the SSH group. so just change source tab custom to Anywhere. Now click on Review and launch.

(9) Now you will see the Launch button. It will ask you for a key pair. so just create a new key pair. Don’t forget to download that key pair on your  Android Phone.

(10) after creating a key pair. Click on the launch button. it will start your Ubuntu server on the EC2 dashboard. it will take 2-3 minutes to get active status.

Done now your virtual machine is ready to connect with your Android phone so don’t waste more time and let’s get started.

Amazon Web Services – Connect Ubuntu Server Using SSH On Android.

You need to install JuiceSSH – SSH Client app from the above link or from Google play store.

You require 3 things to connect.

USERNAME: ubuntu.

 Keypair.

 Public IP. 

Open JuiceSSH – SSH Client App on Android. Go to Connections. Click on ➕ the plus icon to create a new Connection.

Set it that like bellow :

Nickname: Any
Yupe: SSH
Address: put your public Ip

Identity: Add

Identity: Add New.

In identity fill like bellow:

Nickname: any
Username: ubuntu
Private Key: select your key pair.

Save it. Done

Save it. Done now your instance is perfectly connected on your Android phone. Now open your Ubuntu 16.04 server from the connection tab.

It will open a terminal. Done your instance is ready to use.

Create Ubuntu server On OVH Cloud Using Android :

(1) Go to ovh.com. Create a fresh account if you don’t have it. They will ask you for your personal details.

Like Name, Adress, Phone Number, Email and card details. You need to buy a public cloud here.

(2) Log in to your OVH Cloud Dashboard. Now you will see Public Cloud Option in the top menu. Click on that option.

(3) now you will see. Public cloud dashboard. Click on the instance. Now you need to click on create an instance option.

(4) first Select a model. Use any plan which you want to use here. Like how much RAM, storage, CPU and internet Bandwidth you want.

(5) now you need to select a region. Select your region or closes to your country. Then press the next button.

(6) now you need to select an image. Select your operating system which you want to install. I am going to select the ubuntu. A version that you want.

(7) here is the tricky part. Which is the SSH key? You need to add your own public SSH key.

Let’s create our own public SSH key.

 

Ubuntu server - SSH key

* Download JuiceSSHSSH Client App On Your Android device.

* Open JuiceSSHSSH client App. You need to create an Identity. Go to the Identities tab. Click on the plus âž• icon. Now fill like this

Nickname: any
Username: ubuntu
Private Key: click on the SET (OPTIONAL) button.

Click on the Generate button. And save it.

* Now you will see your identity. Long press on that. Then click on Export Public Key. Copy your key in your clipboard.

* Go back to the OVH Cloud page. Now put any name for SSH key. And put your public key into the SSH key section. Now click on Add a key button. Press next.

(8) now the next step is all about Configure your instance. Pit Number of instances to be created. Give any Instance name. Then click on the Next button.

(9) now the next step is to select a billing period. You have 2 billing options. Monthly basis and hourly basis. Select any which you want. Then press Create an instance button.

(10) now it will refresh your page. Then you will see your instance list here. It will take 2-3 Months to get activated status.

Done now your (VM) virtual machine is ready to connect using SSH with your Android phone so don’t waste more time and let’s get started.

OVH Cloud – Connect Ubuntu Server Using SSH On Android.

You require 2  things to connect.

Public IP Address. 

USERNAME: ubuntu.

Open JuiceSSH – SSH Client App on Android. Go to Connections. Click on ➕ the plus icon to create a new Connection.

Set it that like bellow :

Nickname: Any
Yupe: SSH
Address: put your public Ip

Identity: select Identity which created before in (7th Point in OVH).

Save it. Done now your instance is properly connected on your Android Phone using SSH.
